The Watch
.
In 1969, Heuer produced one of the biggest Legends of the Chronograph game: The Monaco Ref 1133. Originally the Monaco's were fitted with striking Blue Dials and were undoubtedly boosted by appearing on Hollywood Superstar Steve McQueen's wrist in the 1971 film Le Mans.
.
In 1972, Heuer released a grey dialled version of the Monaco, the Ref 1133G, as the example we have for sale here. Grey dialed Monaco's are a whole different breed with four variants. The sub registers on the dial were either painted or sunken and either black or grey in color. The example we have here features dial matching grey sub registers that are sunken into the surface rather than simply painted.
.
The driving force of this Heuer Monaco is the legendary automatic chronograph calibre 11, one of the earliest automatic chronograph movements. Heuer worked with Breitling, Hamilton-Buren, and Dubois-Dépraz to create this movement.
The Chrono pushers are the original steel ones on the right side of the large square case, with the winding crown situated on the left side of the case – we love the balanced look of this. This Guy is also accompanied by the Original Rally Strap with Heuer Buckle.
