The Newmark NP ‘Panda’ Chronograph is latest rendition of our asymmetric cased chrono; we think a logical progression from the 6BB and the HS Chronographs which have proven to be very popular.
The NP is nicknamed the ‘Panda’ for obvious reasons given its dial layout and colour scheme; what does NP stand for? Newmark Panda or Newmark Professional – either goes!
As this watch is not based upon a military dial layout as such then we decided that a date window was in order and so it is, at the 6 o’clock position with a neat black border – keeping the dial nice and symmetrical, even if the case is not!
The dial of the Newmark Panda is best described as an ‘ice white’ and unlike the 6BB and HS, the sub dials are satin as opposed to matt finish with the concentric circles picking up the light beautifully. Matt black hands with a Super Luminova C3 fill and dial markers with the same C3 compound ensure that night time legibility is good.
Featuring the same Seiko VK64 meca quartz movement as used in its brothers the 6BB and the HS, the NP combines quartz reliability with the feel of a vintage chronograph movement, right down to the 1/5 second central hand….plus of course the quickset date at ‘6’.
Very much a ‘civilian’ watch, the NP is sporty yet dressy and very vintage in its looks and feel.
A true ‘grab and go’ watch which we are sure will attract positive comments, the Newmark NP comes as standard on a medium mesh bracelet along with a leather racing style perforated strap with contrast stitch.
