The Watch
.
The Mk VIIA 6B/159 Wristwatches were issued to pilots and navigators of the RAF during WW2 and feature a lockable movable outer bezel which is set to the second hand to calculate longitude to aid navigation and to read the elapsed time in seconds.
.
The watch takes its name from Lieutenant Weems, who was a well-known aviator, navigator and instructor at the Naval Officer School at Annapolis, Maryland, in the U.S.A.
.
It is believed that only around 7,000 were produced and delivered to the RAF in 1940.
.
Production was spread across 5 companies: Longines, Jaeger LeCoultre, Omega, Movado & Zenith.
.
There were only 2000 Omega Weems issued to Pilots/Navigators during the Second World War, who knows how many survived.
