Superb Vintage Gents Smiths DeLuxe 9ct Gold British Railways Presentation Wristwatch Cal 400 c.1961
Dating this Watch
By 1959 Smiths ceased to use the "C" prefix serial number under the balances, from that point on they were in batch numbers. We can date this Watch to circa 1961 using the hallmarks on the 9ct Gold Case which are for London 1961.
Movement
Superb quality Vintage Smiths English made calibre 400 "time only" movement.
Timekeeping

The Movement seems reasonably clean, it is ticking away nicely and keeping time within around 1-2 minutes per day. However it could do with a Service and is being sold requiring one before regular use. This is something we can help with if you so wish.
Two notes to make, I can feel the click spring is a little worn but functional, also there is a build up on the Ratchet Wheel. There may be other issues that I cannot see so please be aware that I am selling this as servicing required.

Smiths marked Dials with Shockproof after 1959.
The Dial is in good Vintage Condition, with some minor age related patina throughout.
There are a few specks of lint on the Dial, this will be removed if you take my advice and have the Watch serviced before regular use.
This is the original Untouched 60 year old Dial that left the Smiths Cheltenham Factory back in 61 and I am a big fan of untouched dials and will stock nothing other than Original.

Case
Superb Quality 9ct Solid Gold Case.
The Case is in very good condition for its age, with some some wear to the lugs but nothing to shout about.
The lugs are a beautiful shape.
The Case has benefitted from a VERY light buff to bring it back to life.
Hallmarks still very good inside.
Hallmarks are for LONDON 1961.
Case-back engraving for long service to British Railways still nice and crisp.

Hands, Crystal and Crown
Original Blued Handset, in very nice Vintage order.
Original Crown in good nick.
Original Crystal, or so I believe it to be, I have gave it a light polish with Polywatch but some marks remain.
Strap
On a 16mm Grey genuine leather strap with gold plated buckle that looks great.
